Apex Park
616 Burbridge Road
West Beach SA 5024

Being one of the most visited sites in West Torrens, Apex Park underwent a significant upgrade in 2019 with support from the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development through the Community Development Grants program. The upgrade improved the versatility of the site, as well as safety and amenity, and enhances the natural environment.

This year, Council has once again been successful in securing funding through the State Government's Open Space and Places for People fund in 2021 to continue redeveloping the reserve.

The Stage 2 redevelopment aims to open up the northern edge of the wetland in a similar way to Stage 1 in order to improve visibility and passive surveillance. In addition, the dense weed species will be removed and more suitable plants will be planted to support the long term sustainability of the reserve and wetland.

Due to overwhelming community feedback following the Stage 1 upgrade, Council proposes to improve the passive recreation options on site by introducing a new nature playspace of nature and a natural junior BMX track. The next stage will also maximise the links to River Torrens Linear Park and the planned upgrade of Breakout Creek Stage 3.

Key design criteria for the overall upgrade include:

  • open the park up, improve passive surveillance (i.e. improve safety for park users)
  • maintain wetland function
  • create a diversity of experiences for the public (including nature playspace, events space and junior BMX)
  • create high amenity areas including playgrounds, picnic areas and walking paths
  • create links to Breakout Creek.
