Consultation has concluded

Richmond Oval
57 Milner Road, Richmond

Update 6 October 2022

Stage One works are progressing despite delays due to inclement weather and delivery of materials. Installation of the furniture and play elements is almost complete and work has commenced on installing a range of rocks and natural materials for retaining, as well as decorative fencing panels along the northern edge. Construction of the new footbridge is being finalised offsite before being installed at the northern side of the Oval closer to project completion. It is expected Stage One works will be completed by the end of November 2022.

Stage Two works will include a new and upgraded grandstand, changerooms, meeting rooms and function area along with carparking and additional recreation elements. Consultants continue to work with the City of West Torrens (CWT) and the West Adelaide Football Club (WAFC) on the planning and concept design of this next stage of works.

On 2 September 2022, a site tour was arranged and attended by consultants, members of the WAFC and a number of CWT staff and Elected Members to inform the design of the project.

The following sites were visited:

  • SA Cricket Association Sports Hub, Karen Rolton Oval;
  • Campbelltown Memorial Oval Sports Hub, Paradise; and
  • Football Federation of SA - State Centre of Football, Gepps Cross.

Consultants will now consolidate feedback from the tour along with comments received from the public consultation undertaken earlier this year, and develop draft concept/preliminary design plan for the next stage of works. This concept/preliminary design plan will be presented to Council in early 2023 for comment.

To meet the growing needs of our community and provide improved, user-friendly recreational spaces, the City of West Torrens has developed a master plan focussed on the redevelopment of Richmond Oval.

The Master Plan aims to provide a sustainable, high-quality public open space which is user-friendly for local residents while also offering multi-user sporting and recreational activities and opportunities.

Key features proposed for the overarching Master Plan include:

  • improved accessibility
  • activation of community open space including:
    - netball courts and 3-on-3 basketball court
    - new playground/activity area in the north-eastern corner
    - cricket nets plus storage
    - toilet facilities in the south-eastern corner
    - bike track/running track around the external perimeter of the oval
  • multi-use oval
  • improved pedestrian and cycling access points at Martin and Kingston Avenues
  • upgraded terrace seating
  • improved overflow car parking and recreation/training area
  • improved football club change rooms, umpire rooms and match day coaches area
  • function area and meeting room(s) for community use.

Stage 2 - have your say!

Now that consultation on Stage 1 (focussing on the eastern side of the oval) is complete, we are now seeking community feedback on the Stage 2 Master Plan which will focus on the western side of the oval. This Master Plan may include:

  • upgraded grandstand
  • function area
  • unisex changerooms
  • meeting rooms
  • carparking

  • Share Hi Team Just had a walk through of the redeveloped eastern side (accessed via the new bridge form Martin St!) of Richmond Oval. It looks fantastic and can't wait to get my 3 boys down there to check it out. I have a few questions regarding the oval redevelopment I wouldn't mind your thoughts on: Was or will there be a formal announcement of the new playground / facilities? Seems a shame not to get the word out on these new facilities. Are you able to provide an update on the progress of further redevelopment plans for the oval, noting the master plan outlined further development of the western side including tennis/basketball courts, carparking etc? Are there still plans to open further access points to the east (Deacon Ave / South Road) and South (Kingston Ave)? Thanks Aaron on Facebook Share Hi Team Just had a walk through of the redeveloped eastern side (accessed via the new bridge form Martin St!) of Richmond Oval. Hi Aaron

Firstly, apologies for the delay in responding to your questions, glad to hear you are enjoying the upgraded facilities.

We are continuing to work on a Masterplan that will guide how we prioritise upgrades of facilities and infrastructure across the site. In considering options for access, the Masterplan will need to be informed by the State Government's plans for future works on South Road.

We plan to share the Masterplan with our community and seek further feedback in the future, make sure you are subscribed to  Richmond Oval redevelopment | Your Say West Torrens to be advised when the next round of consultation opens.

    Hi Warren

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your question.

Thank you for the feedback on the fencing and colours. Currently there are no plans for a new fence at Richmond Oval.

We are continuing to work on a Masterplan that will guide how we prioritise upgrades of facilities and infrastructure across the site, and will be seeking further community feedback on that plan in the future, make sure you are subscribed to  Richmond Oval redevelopment | Your Say West Torrens to be advised when the next round of consultation opens.
