Next steps

The Henley Beach Road project is long-term and is still in its early stages. We are currently focussing on investigations, and planning. Given the project's complexity, it will be developed in phases. Pilot projects will be conducted to ensure that proposed improvements align with our community's needs. Elements such as streetscape upgrades, public transport improvements and enhancements to the shopping and dining precincts will take time to design, test and implement.

Future opportunities to provide feedback will be available, hit the follow button at the top of this page to make sure you are informed when future consultations open.

Community engagement information 2024

Henley Beach Road is an important place in West Torrens, rich in history, cultural diversity, and economic activity. Recognising the need to both celebrate and improve this important local destination, Council has developed a Vision and a series of guiding principles for Henley Beach Road to enhance its vibrancy and prosperity into the future.

The Vision and Guiding Principles relate to an approximately 3km section of Henley Beach Road between Airport Road and the Bakewell Underpass and Adelaide Parklands, as outlined in red:

The Henley Beach Road Vision and Guiding Principles have been developed based on investigations by urban design, traffic, and retail business specialists, and in consultation with Henley Beach Road traders and owners of commercial properties.

You and all who visit Henley Beach Road now have the opportunity to provide feedback on the Vision and Guiding Principles. Your contribution will support Council's efforts to make Henley Beach Road a major main street destination to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

The Henley Beach Road Vision and Guiding Principles were developed based on:

  • Consultation with local businesses and other stakeholders.
  • Reviewing successes and lessons from other urban corridors and main streets in Adelaide and beyond.
  • In depth urban design analysis of the shopping and dining heart of Henley Beach Road between Hayward Avenue and Shipster Street.

The new Vision for Henley Beach Road, now approved by Council and open for community feedback is:

A cosmopolitan boulevard which celebrates a unique blend of cultures, identity, and stories. Henley Beach Road is a thriving meeting place for families and friends.

The Guiding Principles will guide Council's development and investment decisions in order to achieve the Vision for Henley Beach Road:
