Council has recently reviewed heritage and historic areas in West Torrens to better understand local historic themes , and identify opportunities to protect places of heritage value.

Between 16 December 2024 and 28 February 2025, our community is invited to participate in the identification and protection of future heritage places. Importantly, nominations are not only for property owners.

Anyone is free to nominate places in West Torrens on private or public land that they believe may have heritage value.

Community submissions will be considered and reviewed against heritage listing criteria in future stages of the heritage review.

Historical themes for West Torrens

Part of the heritage review was confirming a framework of historic themes relevant
to West Torrens.

These themes are tailored to West Torrens and build on previous local historic research. The themes are also consistent with the South Australian Heritage Council's historic themes, and themes and time periods recognised by the Adelaide Western Region Heritage Study.

Nominate a heritage place

We are asking the community to nominate buildings and structures in West Torrens that may have local heritage significance. Nominations are not limited to the underrepresented themes, but places representing these themes will be given highest priority as Council considers the next steps for heritage listing.
