The Hopson Street consultation has now closed. 

Council is seeking feedback from residents and property owners in Hopson Street, Torrensville, to upgrade and plant street trees in this area.

Until now, Hopson Street has been considered as a location where it was difficult to grow street trees due to narrow spaces conflicting with footpaths and roadways.

Thanks to advances in design principles and tree species, we are now seeking to upgrade footpaths in Hopson Street and plant street trees. As such, we have developed 2 options for residents and owners to provide feedback on.

Option 1

The key features of this option include the following:

• Establishment of approximately 28 small sized trees on the western and southern sides of the road.
• The street tree variety being considered for this options is Eucalyptus leucoxylon 'Euky Dwarf' (Dwarf SA Blue Gum)
• Sections of road side kerbing on the western and southern sides of the road will be replaced.
• Retention of the footpaths on the western and southern sides of the road, and reconstruction of these footpaths (along within driveway crossing places) with brick paving. 
• No new street tree or landscape establishment along the eastern and northern sides of the road.
• No proposed modification or upgrade of existing footpaths on the eastern and northern side of the road. (This does not preclude the future upgrade at some point in time of these footpaths, either in a similar manner or without street trees).

Option 2

The key features of this option include the following:

• Establishment of approximately 20 medium sized trees on the western and southern sides of the road.
• The street tree variety being considered for this option is Melia azedarach 'Elite'
• The permanent removal of the footpaths on the western and southern sides of the road to make room for the larger planting arrangements.
• Reconstruction of existing driveway crossing places on the western and southern sides of the road with new brick paving.
• Reinstatement of the road verges on the western and southern sides of the road with either roll out grass or compacted rubble (based on future feedback from directly adjacent residents). 
• No new street tree establishment along the eastern and northern sides of the road.
• Reconstruction of the footpaths and driveway crossing places on the eastern and northern sides of the road with brick paving. 

People are encouraged to provide their feedback on which option they would prefer.
