Consultation outcome - 10 December 2021

In September 2021, Council requested feedback from residents regarding the perch tree in Lindfield Reserve, Novar Gardens and now wish to advise the outcome of the survey.

Based on the survey results along with ongoing resident feedback and questions raised about the stability of the tree after being dead for more than 10 years, Council has decided the perch tree will be removed.

Segments of the tree's limbs and trunk will be installed as a habitat log in the same location and the current nesting box will be relocated to another tree within the reserve. This will be done in a manner that will have minimal impact on the birdlife.

Council understands there are a number of residents who wanted to keep the perch tree due to its environmental benefits for bird habitat. Therefore, Council will create another perch tree at Lindfield Reserve when a large, structurally sound and suitable gum tree dies. Removal of the tree is anticipated to occur in the New Year.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Peter Richardson, Manager City Operations on 8416 6333 or at csu@wtcc.sa.gov.au

As someone who attends Lindfield Reserve or is a resident with a property that boarders it, you may be aware of the dead perch tree in the reserve that currently contains a nesting box which is home to rainbow lorikeets.

After receiving a request to have the tree removed from the reserve, Council is seeking feedback from local residents surrounding the tree.

If community sentiment results in the decision being made to remove the tree, it will be done at a time which will not affect the rainbow lorikeets and the nesting box will be relocated to another tree in the reserve.
