Council is seeking feedback on proposals to formally name 2 assets within our boundary:

  • Admella Place to Inparri Wama in Thebarton
  • Sanders Lane to Rebecca Lane in Richmond.

Public feedback is invited between 29 May and 30 June 2023.

Admella Place to Inparri Wama

The renaming of Admella Place, a Council owned road reserve in Thebarton, is the result of a community request.

Inparri Wama is the Kaurna phrase for 'meeting place', and it is intended that this new name complement the use of the location as a local meeting place, enhanced by a community-driven infrastructure improvements delivered by Council in 2019.

The proposed name Inparri Wama has been selected following consultation with Kaurna Warra Karrpanthi, the organisation in South Australia responsible for indigenous name conventions.

Sanders Lane to Rebecca Lane

Located in Richmond, Sanders Lane is a 'no through road', and contains one residential property amongst commercial properties.

Sanders Lane intersects Lucas Street to the north, while a different road, named Sanders Street intersects Lucas Street to the south. Residents of the same house number on Sanders Street and Lane have experienced ongoing inconvenience from the misdirection of mail, and visitors having difficulty navigating to the property. Renaming of Sanders Lane is intended to resolve this problem.

Both Sanders Street and Lane are understood to be named after local landowners and graziers William and Rebecca Sanders. It is with appreciation of this historical context that the new name of Rebecca Lane is proposed.
