Let's talk about community sheds and repair cafes!
We're keen to find out what our wider community thinks about establishing a Council-run community shed and/or repair café in West Torrens.
We recently received a request from our community to explore this idea, so we want to know if it has wider appeal.
Community sheds are spaces where people can gather, meet others and work on projects. Projects can include making and repairing wooden items such as toys and furniture, metal work and welding and art and hobby craft. Social acitivies such as pool, card games and darts are also often available at community sheds.
Repair cafes help our community divert household items from landfill by providing a space where they can be fixed/repaired. It's a space where people can come together, have a chat, have some refreshments and get some help from specialised volunteers to fix items.
Would you support either or both of these ideas?
If we were to establish, host or invest in one or both of these ideas, we would require a custom-built venue and we would need to purchase a range of machinery, tools and infrastructure. Before we scope the cost of such a project, we want to gauge community demand.
Please take a moment to complete the following survey to help us have a better understanding of our local community's interest. Your views from this initial survey will be provided to Council and if there is support for either or both of these ideas, this will be investigated, scoped and then provided to you for additional input.
Survey closes 5pm, Friday 9 June 2023.
