Between 28 August and 29 September 2023, Council is seeking feedback on its proposal to rename a portion of Transport Avenue, Netley.

The portion of Transport Avenue is located on the eastern side of the Adelaide Airport, and is primarily used to access surrounding commercial properties. The road is blocked to vehicular traffic at the western end.

The proposed renaming is in response to a request to Council by Adelaide Airport Limited. The request prompted further research into suitable alternative names that reflect local aviation history. The following 2 alternative names are under consideration:

Option 1: Young Avenue, Netley

Young Avenue would commemorate 21 years' service to Adelaide Airport Limited by its former Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director, Mark Young.

Option 2: Laxapana Avenue, Netley

Laxapana Avenue would commemorate Australian National Airways Douglas DC-4 Skymaster VH-INY ‘Laxapana’, the first scheduled airline flight into the new Adelaide Airport on 16 February 1955.
