Types of roles

If you have found this page, you are most likely already a volunteer. It is still handy to know what roles are available...just in case you feel like a change!

Toy Library

Help out at the Toy Library by:

  • checking returned toys for damage
  • ensuring all pieces have been returned
  • entering returns into the computer system
  • cleaning the toys
  • re-shelving the toys.

English classes

Help people whose home language isn’t English. Work under the direction of language tutors either in groups or one-to-one.

Volunteers also help supervise young children in a crèche while their parents take part in English classes.

Home and Community Care shopping

Take individual frail older people shopping on a regular basis. Your own car and a current driver's licence are essential for this volunteer service.

Hamra Centre Library

Work with library staff on a variety of library tasks.

Justice of the Peace (JP)

Registered JPs can volunteer their services to the public from an office in the Hamra Centre Library.

Library Information Technology (IT) classes

Help run IT classes covering various topics.

War on Waste

If you're passionate about reducing waste and would like the chance to engage with the local community and help influence others, our Waste Management Team would love to hear from you.

We're looking for volunteers to help out as public events and/or doorknock in areas to promote the food waste recycling message. A full position description is available by contacting our Community Development Officer Volunteers.

Community bus service

Drive a small or larger bus or provide assistance to passengers as needed.
